at 13.45-14.30 University of Helsinki, Learning Centre Aleksandria (2002)

  • located in newly renovated premises on the City Campus
  • experts in teaching, information service and information technology provide consultation and advice on the use of Aleksandrias’ state-of-the-art facilities
  • self-service lending machines and returning machine, bookable groupwork rooms for the students
  • computer facilities accessible for students and teachers of the Helsinki University 24 hours a day

at 14.45-16.00 Library 10, Kirjasto Kymppi, was opened in April 2005

  • combined the well-known Cable Book Library, the first public web library in Europe, and the Pasila Music Station Library
  • located in the very heart of Helsinki City, in the Main Post Office building
  • concentrated on music, web services, media, cinema and travel books plus cartoons

Library 10 is in the city centre, easy to continue to shopping or have a coffee or a dinner.

To be visited after the official tour, if wanted: Rikhardinkatu Library

  • the first building in Nordic countries especially built to serve as a public library
  • completed in 1881; additional building on the 1920s; the last renovation in 1988, 2nd phase in 2003
  • lending automates and adjustable service desks
  • till 1986, this building was the main library of the Helsinki City Library
  • special areas art and material in Swedish; has an artotheque in co-operation with the Artist's Association of Helsinki

at 10.00-11.00 Library Sello (=Library Cello. For the English presentations and photos, scroll to the very end of the web page!), Espoo

  • a public library in connection with a new shopping mall called Sello
  • the most visited library in the capital region
  • offers a.o. possibilities to rehearse music and a music studio, as well as a consumer information office and a Citizen Services Point.

at 11.30-12.00 Etelä-Haaga Library

  • a branch library of the Helsinki City Library, located in a building from the early 60s

at 12.30-13.15 Arabianranta Library

  • part of the Aralis Library and Information Centre , bringing together Helsinki City Library’s Arabianranta Library and three art libraries of the education institutions located nearby.

After the trip, a possibility to visit the Arabia china factory shop and other shops in the Arbia mall.

The tram trip back to the city centre takes ca. 20 minutes.
