WHOSE INTERNET?
International conference in Helsinki, Finland, 18-19 May 2006
To continue the professional work on the themes of WSIS, the Finnish Library Association, the Library of Parliament of Finland and FAIFE, the IFLA Committee on Free Access to Information and Freedom of Expression will organize an international conference Whose Internet?
Whose media is the Internet? Who is producing its content, on which interests and on which provisions? How to proportion the principle of free access to information to the harmful and offensive web content? Which are the means of library professionals to handle the Internet? There are no easy answers to these questions, but they are discussed in this conference.
The conference language is mainly English, but the last part of the Friday program will be in Finnish. Parallelly with the Finnish program, a study trip to Finnish libraries will be arranged for the foreign participants.
The participant fee before May 1 is 120€, after that 140€. It includes the meals during the conference, and the study trip for the foreign participants on Friday 19 May and Saturday 20 May.
WSIS – the World Summit on the Information Society
The Finnish Ministry of Education has supported the conference.
